For me it comes down to one simple thing. And I hope one of the candidates on July 30 and 31 lay out a strategy to beat Trump in 2020.
While a health care policy is important, and a climate change policy, an education policy, economic inequality and creating jobs that require only one job to have a family, make ends meet, social justice policy, a gun control policy, foreign policy, corporate power, and voting rights; these policies are meaningless UNLESS Donald Trump is no longer in power come Jan 21, 2021.
So, for me the candidate that lays out a plan, a strategy to beat Donald Trump on November 3rd, 2020 will get my attention at the debate on the last 2 days in July.
Seven months before the first ballots are cast, most of the candidates are still introducing themselves to voters.
“If a voter doesn’t know you, one way to get them to know you is by touting an issue or policy that’s near and dear to that person’s heart,” said Mary Anne Marsh, a Democratic strategist. The Washington Post
The emotionally charged developments shook both political parties on Thursday, a day after Trump continued his verbal assault against four minority congresswomen, this time at a raucous rally in North Carolina. The president’s supporters chanted “Send her back!” after Trump criticized Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Muslim who fled to the U.S. as a child from violence-wracked Somalia.pbs
But Michael Fisher, an African American pastor from Compton who attended the event, warned Democrats to ignore Trump.
“They should absolutely not respond to ignorance,” Fischer said. “They should stay focused on the issues.”
That tension previews the uncomfortable balancing act Democrats will face in the nearly 16 months before Election Day. Trump’s escalating exploitation of racism puts the rawest divide in American life squarely on the ballot in 2020. Democrats are united in condemning his words and actions, but the question of how to counter them is much more complicated.PBS
The nation’s most populous swing state is shaping up to be make-or-break in 2020 for Trump, who likely needs Florida’s 29 electoral college votes to make the re-election math work. Republicans know this, and so do Democrats, who have found success in the state just out of reach for most of the last decade.Tampa bay times
Just to put that in perspective, 15 states have populations smaller than the number represented by Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Trump’s racist attacks on the four members of congress implied that they are not adequately “American.” In fact, three of them are citizens born in this country, and one, Ilhan Omar, came here at the age of 10 and is a naturalized citizen. Trump’s demand that they “go back” to their countries of origin, apart from its obvious racism, belies the fact that they symbolically represent a huge swath of the American population which Trump doesn’t count among his supporters.Salon
Trump won Michigan by 10,704 votes. Trump received 48.2 % of the vote, Clinton received 48% of the vote and Johnson received 3.6 % of the vote. Trump drew to an inside straight… will one of the current Democrats fair better than Trump? If Democrats chose the right candidate, Trump won’t have the advantage of having an opponent who is as disliked as Trump is… maybe the Democrat can leverage the dislike against Trump to her or his advantage? the numbers were similar in Wisconsin and in Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes out of more than six million cast, a difference of 0.72% and the narrowest margin in a presidential election for the state in 176 years.
The story was the same in Ohio as well as Florida. There are states that Trump simply not win; California, New York and states the Democrat will not win; Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas, so the states Democrats must focus on are obvious, and Democrats must convince the electorate to either vote for the democratic nominee or simply not vote for Trump because he is a toxic RACIST, criminal, felon or worse….
… paint Trump as the unAmerican Draft Dodger he is. Shape him as the Russian Choice, the man who committed adultery while running for President and paid hush money to a porn star and another woman to keep silent because of his adultery. And expose him as the man who pals around with men who sexually molest children, Epstein and Nader.
Democrats must create a narrative of who the REAL Donald Trump is and it can start on July 30 and July 31
