Existential involvement….

Picking up from my post of last week, I consider many topics to continue writing about.  Obviously, the first thing I must do to write an essay, a research paper, a short story, a novel, any writing is determine a topic.  Brainstorming about a topic, I consider several areas of interest.  And a few things that I know nothing about.  This option will give me an opportunity to learn about something new.

I’m interested in the 5 paragraph essay because it seems well suited for the type of writing that the internet is best crafted.  Something concise and to the point, with only the necessary words to communicate the point.  I see many stories on the internet that are simply much too long.  Too many words, and I guess it’s because these writers are paid by the word.  I think 300 to 500 words should be adequate to tell the story I want to show.

Driving to work one day last I week, I hear a piece of music I’m familiar with but can’t quite identify the piece.  I know I’ve heard the music before.  After parking in our company paring lot, I wait for the music to end hoping the radio announcer with identify for me.  I’m rewarded with the name as well as the composer.  It’s the Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor, op 47.  I walk to my office and google the name.  I get several hits on YouTube which are below, as well as the 1st and second movement of the Barber violin concerto, Op. 14.

I’ve included several performances.

Joshua Bell: Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, op 47 – 24.11.11

Sarah Chang plays Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor (full)

Giora Schmidt, Barber Cto. Itzhak Perlman, Israel Phil. – 2nd mvt.

So, here’s the thing…  once the ball is rolling where do I stop?

Barber:

Born in 1910 and died in 1981. His most recognizable composition is the Adagio for Strings. This piece of music has been used in several movies. Platoon being the one I remember the most. Other compositions by Barber are the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 14, the opera Vanessa, Piano Concerto, Op. 38.

Sibelius: Born in 1865 and died in 1957. Included in the list of music is the Violin Concerto in D minor.

 John Williams:

Is an Australian born classical guitarist born in 1944 He was a member of the band Sky from 1978 to 1995. A classical performance as well as a Sky performance is included.
