Allegory of the Garden of Eden

Like the characters from the allegory of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve, we humans are poor guardians of the tiny planet “Eden”.

In the Old Testament Bible Book of Genesis 2nd and 3rd chapters, we find the writing of the creation of the first man Adam, and his wife Eve; in what is called “The Garden of Eden.” As the story goes, God creates this garden with lush greenery, trees, fruits, and places the couple in the garden as their home.

I’ve contemplated this allegory, this story of the Garden of Eden many times. I don’t take a literal interpretation of the story. It’s an interesting story. A metaphor for the planet earth. Instead of the Garden of Eden, we have the Planet Eden. And all the perils that befall the Garden of Eden because humans don’t do the right thing can befall the Planet Eden because humans don’t do the right thing.

The Garden of Eden was destroyed, made uninhabitable to Adam and Eve because the two inhabitants failed the test. And the Planet Eden will be destroyed, made uninhabitable because humans fail the test.

And the humans Adam and Eve failed the test and the garden was destroyed. So the humans of the 21st Century are failing the test and the Planet Eden will be destroyed.

We’ve been given a message. We’ve been given a warning and we ignore the warning.

Adam and Eve didn’t protect the Garden of Eden that the story tells us God created for Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve failed to protect the Garden of Eden given by God.

Simply put, will humankind fail to protect the Planet Eden?
