President Trump announced Tuesday that he would commute former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s 14-year prison sentence for extortion, bribery and corruption — as well as issue full pardons for former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr., former NYPD Commissioner Bernie Kerik and financier Michael Milken.
So much for “Drain the Swamp.”
Donald Trump pardoned former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr, commuted the sentence of former Illinois governor (and Celebrity Apprentice contestant, yeah) Rod Blagojevich, and pardoned “friend of Rudy” Bernie Kerik today.
Both Blagojevich and DeBartolo were convicted in bribery cases. Go figure. Kerik pleaded guilty to 8 charges that included tax fraud and lying to White House officials.
Revenge of the swamp creatures: Left and right, Trump pardons corruption
In a likely warmup for his coming pardon of Roger Stone, a president who howls about law and order while flagrantly flouting both has just wiped away former NYPD commissioner Bernie Kerik’s federal corruption conviction and freed former Illinois governor and epically unethical “Celebrity Apprentice” cast member Rod Blagojevich from federal lockup.
