President Donald Trump on Thursday yelled at U.S. Navy brass after reports emerged that they may strip Special Operations Chief Eddie Gallagher of his status as a Navy SEAL.

“The Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin,” the president wrote on Twitter. “This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!”

Dr. Fiona Hill, former National Security Council Russia expert, has sharp words for Republicans in her opening statement, and a critical warning.

“Some of you on this committee,” Hill says, “appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country—and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason Ukraine did.” This, she says, “is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.” That Russia was behind the interference, she says, “is beyond dispute, even if some of the underlying details must remain classified.” She adds that even now “Russia’s security services and their proxies have geared up to repeat their interference in the 2020 election. We are running out of time to stop them.”

‘Frustrated’ Trump going through manic mood swings as he watches impeachment hearings unfold

With the report noting Trump snapped, “I want nothing! I want nothing! I want no quid pro quo. This is the final word from the president of the United States. I want nothing,” and not taking questions on Wednesday, the pressure on the president is becoming increasingly evident.

Democrats Must Impeach Donald Trump to Defend the Republic. Also, It’s Good Politics.

The president is lawless, and has violated his oath to defend the Constitution.

Make Republican senators defend him and what he’s done.

At the risk of sounding a bit repetitive, Democratic leaders must come to grips with who and what Donald Trump is—and the nature of the Republican Party he leads—before this crew tramples what’s left of the republic. One of our two major political parties is now an authentic authoritarian outfit, where the political playbook at both the state and federal levels consists of using the mechanisms of democracy to strangle the popular will and entrench minority rule. Anything is acceptable if it helps you maintain your grip on power.
