What do Democrats have to do to win in 2020?

Turn out the VOTE… especially black American Voters…Black Voters have to be persuaded that Donald Trump can’t be re elected in 2020…

Study: Wisconsin Black Voter Turnout Fell 19 Percent in 2016 Presidential Election

In 2016black turnout was down eight points from 2012, helping … It came down to about 78,000 votes in three states, including Michigan

“The declining black vote share can be traced to very sharp decline in black turnout in the state, dropping 19 points from 74 percent in 2012 to 59 percent in 2016,” states a new study released by the Center for American Progress titled “Voter Trends in 2016: A Final Examination” speaking of Wisconsin.

Low Black Turnout May Have Cost Clinton the Election

A new analysis of November’s election published in the Washington Post on Monday suggests that Hillary Clinton’s performance was damaged by a significant decline in turnout among black voters, especially in a few high-stakes states. From the Post:

Black turnout declined dramatically; white turnout increased noticeably; and Latino and Asian American turnout went up even more. In the key swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, those shifts were especially strong. How strong? Without those shifts in turnout from various racial and ethnic groups, these pivotal states might have gone not to Trump but to Clinton—giving Clinton an electoral college victory.

Weaker Democratic support in Detroit, Flint made Trump stronger in Michigan

Traditional Michigan Democratic voters in inner cities such as Detroit and Flint helped President Obama win his second term in 2012, but didn’t pack the same punch for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

So how did African-Americans vote in the 2016 election? Despite President Obama telling black voters that he would take it as a “personal insult” if they didn’t cast their ballot for Hillary Clinton, 2016 black voters didn’t coalesce behind Clinton the same way they did Obama, with Clinton earning 88% of their vote (to Trump’s 8%) as compared to Obama’s 93% in 2012.

Census shows pervasive decline in 2016 minority voter turnout

Racial minorities, especially black Americans, played a pivotal role in Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential wins. Now, newly released Census Bureau data confirm what many have anticipated: that both minority and black voter turnout took a decided downturn in last November’s elections— helping to compound the impact of the lower than 2012 vote margins that Democrat Hillary Clinton received in her loss to Donald Trump. Minority and black turnout was not only lower in the national statistics but also in key swing states.

Black Voters hold the key to Democrats winning in 2020. The nominee must reach the black voter…and get them out to vote in every state…

‘Building the idiocracy’: Conservative David French details the strategy Trump defenders use to confuse GOP voters…

read alternet

David French — a conservative critic of President Donald Trump — argued this week in a newsletter for The Dispatch that Republicans are “building the idiocracy, one word salad at a time” in their attacks on impeachment.

“Idiocracy” is the title of a 2006 comedy which, French notes, is “set in the fictional, dumbed-down America of the future — where President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho rules over a drought-stricken, miserably stupid nation.” And in real life, French asserts, Trump’s defenders “are actively trying to build the idiocracy” for “the sake of defending” him.
