I’m Retired.  I’m 66 and on the down side to 67.  I now get Social Security.  Something I’ve paid into for 49 years.  I paid social security for the first time in the summer of 1967.  I worked a summer job and social security was withheld by my employer.

Three hundred and eight five dollars. ($385)

And I’ve been paying social security since.  I’ve earned social security as have many millions of other Americans and simply because the government mismanaged the dollars shouldn’t be any reason the I have to bail the government out of their mess.

The government borrowed from social security over the years and the bill is coming due and in typical government fashion, the government wants to bail out of the government’s obligation to it’s citizens.  If the government had’t borrowed from the social security dollars, America wouldn’t be having this conversation today.

By law, the Social Security surplus is converted into bonds, and the cash is used by the Treasury to pay for government expenses. If we agree that this is “borrowing,” every president since 1935 has done it, to fund all sorts of things. Even if Bush “borrowed” from the surplus, the amount is more like $708 billion, and the borrowing wasn’t earmarked for a special purposes.

By law, the U.S. Treasury is required to take the surplus and, in exchange, issue interest-accruing bonds to the Social Security trust funds. The Treasury, meanwhile, uses the cash to fund government expenses, though it has to repay the bonds whenever the Social Security commissioner wants to redeem them.

So Mr. Trump and his Republican Cronies want to screw all the hard working Americans who paid into Social Security over the years.  Yes, even those of you who voted for the GUY… !

Trump Administration Considering ‘Back-Door Way’ to Cut Social Security

The butcher’s bill keeps growing: Donald Trump abuses his own voters — and yet they love him

Trump’s supporters are losing their cynical bet that they’d come out ahead, and they haven’t yet accepted the truth…

The butcher’s bill continues to grow. While a presidential candidate, Donald Trump promised to uplift his white “working class” voters, a group he described as the “forgotten Americans.” As president, Trump has enacted policies that will hurt them. As I have written before here at Salon, I have no pity for Donald Trump’s voters. They have agency. They are adults. They made the choice to support a neo-fascist who has quickly made America less great before the eyes of the world.

It will be glorious to see Trump’s voters continue on their highway to hell.
