Evangelicals may have just lost their reason to back Trump

The Bulwark and The Atlantic both reported Tuesday that the Republican candidate has found himself stuck between two large voting blocks — and struggling to appease them both.

Andrew Egger wrote for The Bulwark that Trump’s campaign appears to have underestimated Americans’ anger over abortion rights. Polls show far more Americans support the right to choose and vehemently oppose a federal ban.

The Atlantic’s Peter Wehner noted that the uncertainty of what to expect is forcing evangelicals to confront broader ethical questions about the candidate.

For years, Wehner wrote, evangelicals have claimed that the one issue that matters most to them is restricting reproductive freedoms. If that is uncertain, they’re questioning if they would back Trump.

“The rationale was always weaker than Trump’s supporters were willing to admit, because Trump’s moral depravity was always far worse and more dangerous than they were willing to acknowledge,” he explained.

RAW STORY

Something you may have missed Bill Clinton say at the Democratic Convention last week…

“You’re going to have a hard time believing this, but so help me, I triple-checked it. Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, America has created about 51 million new jobs. I swear I checked this three times. Even I couldn’t believe it. What’s the score? Democrats 50, Republicans one.”

In other words, over the last 35 years, employers have added roughly 51 million jobs in the United States, and 50 million of them — 98% — have been created during Democratic administrations.

Is that true? Actually, yes…

…according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 51.5 million jobs have been added since January 1989 and roughly 1.3 million of them were created while a Republican president sat in the White House.
